Descriptif :
This course explores the overlappings between the fields of Media Studies and Migration Studies, through the study of three different ways by wich the media determine the individual or collective migration processes :
1) the representations of “the migrant” and constructions of migration phenomenons as a political issue within the public spheres of host-countries ;
2) the international circulation of media images of the “North” as a space of freedom, democracy, and wealth ;
3) the information and communication technologies as supports of diasporic communities and networks of migrant solidarities.
The course therefore aims at providing students with a better understanding of the means through which the media frame, enable and sustain migration processes.
